The disappearance of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu from the radar was the bone of contention on Tuesday at the Federal High Court, Abuja, during the resumption of his trial on charges bordering on treasonable felony. But alas, Kanu was nowhere to be found.
The attention of the court presided by Justice Binta Nyako, was directed at Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South in the upper legislative chamber. Abaribe, one of three persons who stood as guarantors for Kanu to ensure his bail was approved, knowing that the IPOB leader may be absent from proceedings, quickly ran to the court to requesting that he be dismissed as Kanu’s surety, which was turned down as Justice Nyako ordered him to produce Kanu or be ready to forfeit the N100m bond he used as guarantor.
Abaribe was not the only Senator who made headlines in the week under review in the YNaija Effectiveness Ranking for Senators, his counterpart representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye was in Moscow, Russia, attending a conference for legislators around the world, where he had the opportunity to meet with Vladmir Putin, while also taking time out to meet with Nigerians residing in Russia.
Senator Ovie Omo-Agege rose to the number one position, dislodging Senator Isah Misau. Agege’s rise follows President Muhammadu Buhari’s signing of the bill moved by the senator establishing the University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, Delta State, into law.
