President Trump said Tuesday that he got “multiple standing ovations” during his lunch with GOP senators, part of an effort to promote party unity.
“So nice being with Republican Senators today. Multiple standing ovations! Most are great people who want big Tax Cuts and success for U.S.,” Trump tweeted Tuesday about the meeting.
Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) told reporters on Tuesday that Trump got three standing ovations at the meeting, but said the reaction was only because Trump was the president, in response to reporters who asked if the standing ovations were a response to anything in particular that Trump said.
