President Donald J. Trump on Tuesday night addressed the Heritage Foundation President’s Club on the importance of tax reform for the American people.
In the brief address, Trump echoed some of his coveted agendas which have been the source of a tussle between the administration and Congress in recent times.
Here are five things we learnt from his speech.
• Freedom is from God and not government
The president noted that America inherited a legacy of free expression of law, culture and religion. He argued that the most important truth the founding founders laid is that, “freedom is not a gift from government but from God”.
The most important truth our FOUNDERS understood was: FREEDOM is NOT a gift from Govt. FREEDOM is a GIFT from GOD.

• The American Flag
The US leader was again insisted that the flag be accorded some level of honour, as he continued his war of words with players and coaches of the National Football League. Trump said, “our American flag should be treated with respect and reference”, adding that, “young Americans should be taught to love our country”.
• Venezuela crisis
President Trump made reference to the socialist oppression of Venezuela leader, Maduro. He described the situation in the country as a faithful implementation of socialism.
• Obamacare is a disaster
Receiving a warm applause of the audience, President Trump reiterated the need to repeal and replace what he called a disaster “Obamacare”. He said after hearing about the repeal and replace for years, he is disappointed to see nothing done. He, however, stated that, though the process is not easy as thought, “we will get it done”.
• Tax reform
President Trump asserted before the audience that, the country and its economy will not take off as it should with the “extremely burdensome”, “outdated” and “complex” tax code, and therefore restated his administration’s commitment to phase out the existing tax code, coupled with “horrible” and “unfair” ‘death tax’. “Our team will ensure our companies stay in America, grow in America and hire in America”, Trump boasted.
