A party fit for a teenager

teenager

Keep ’em busy

1. An Instax Mini 9 camera (and plenty of film to use) is a must for a teen-girls get-together! R1 199, Superbalist

2. An outdoor movie screen is so easy to make. All you need is a hired projector and a white sheet or wall. Next is the horror or cult teen movie of choice, a bunch of blankets and cushions, and you’ll be good to go.

3. Karaoke is an easy, cheesy, instant party maker. Just be sure to get music they know!

Food for the famished

Nachos:

1. Layer nachos, tomato, salsa and grated mozzarella on a baking tray.

2. Bake until cheese is melted.

3. Top with guacamole and sour cream and serve.

Hot chips

1. Bake trays of oven chips, season and serve with a cheesy sauce.

Pizza

1. Buy pizza dough and get the kids to make their own, using a variety of toppings.

Gourmet popcorn

1. Put out toppings of sprinkles, chocolate, vermicelli, Tabasco Chipotle, Pepper Sauce and spicy salt.

Game changers: If you don’t mind the chaos, these lead to hilarity

The chocolate game

A dice is rolled and whoever gets a six must try to eat from a slab of chocolate with a knife and fork (after putting on a selection of dress-up clothes, and socks on their hands). It’s a kids’ game that teens love!

Fear factor

Include challenges like egg roulette, where out of a tray of six eggs, only five are hard-boiled. Participants have to take turns smashing eggs on their heads. Who will get egged?

Paint Twister

Cover Twister dots with water-soluble paint in corresponding colours and watch the fun begin.

How to make a doughnut wall: An edible trend any teen will love

1. You’ll need a peg board, dowels, paint and a variety of doughnuts.

2. Paint your peg board with one or two coats of paint and allow to dry.

3. Once dry, position against a wall or on top of a table.

4. Pop doughnuts on your peg board either randomly or in a pretty pattern.

5. Durbanites: Call The Cutest Party on the Block (076 502 6763) for customised doughnut walls.

Eat and drink

Simba turns 60 this year! Who isn’t partial to a big bowl of Chipniks? Serve boerie rolls or burgers with Peppadew’s delicious new range of relishes. The easiest way to feed a hungry crowd? Add bacon, feta, chicken or mushrooms to All Gold Tomato & Herb Pasta Sauce, pour over pasta, and let them feast!

The sweetest thing: Serve these sprinkle spoons with hot chocolate or ice cream, or on their own

1. YOU’LL NEED: A variety of spoons, a baking tray, a slab of white or milk chocolate, sprinkles and mini marshmallows.

2. Break chocolate into pieces and heat slowly in a glass bowl over a pot of simmering water, whisking once melted. Line a baking tray with the spoons.

3. Transfer melted chocolate to a jug and pour into spoons. Allow to cool, then decorate with sprinkles and mini marshmallows. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
