Step-by-step video: how to make your own table centrepiece
12 easy steps to make your own table centrepiece
- Lay out the four pieces of wood.
- Measure and mark the placement for the holes by starting with a marker in the centre of the top plank (one of the longer planks) and then measure every 8,5cm on either side of the centre (two markers on either side of the centre) for five holes.
- Drill holes with the hole saw into the wood where the five markers are indicated.
- Sand all the pieces of wood with 100-grit sandpaper to remove any uneven patches in the wood, even using 80-grit sandpaper where needed for extremely rough areas and then smoothing with the 100-grit sandpaper.
- Mix the 20ml of Woodoc Colours Full Moon into one of the 1-litre containers of clear sealer and use the paintbrush to apply the first coat to the outsides of the box panels. Leave it to dry thoroughly. (Warmer conditions will decrease drying time.)
- Sand lightly with fine sandpaper and remove any dust with a dry cloth or rag.
- Apply the second and third coats, allowing each coat to dry completely. Sand lightly with fine sandpaper after the second coat.
- Mix the 20ml of Woodoc Colours Deep Blush into the other 1-litre container of clear sealant.
- Apply the Deep Blush to the insides of the wood pieces following the same method as for Full Moon.
- Create a box shape by placing the two shorter sides on the top and bottom pieces.
- Fix all the sides securely with the wood screws by first drilling a pilot hole with the 6mm drill bit, applying wood glue to the corners of the wood and then fastening the corners with four wood screws on each side.
- Insert the bottles into the wooden centrepiece, style the bottles with flowers and enjoy your beautiful handmade DIY project.
