The date and venue for the 2017 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards have been announced and foodies everywhere are getting excited for what promises to be a glittering event. It takes place on 19 November at Grand West in Cape Town, and you can buy your tickets right here.* Tickets are limited and are selling out fast.
In an exciting and new three-part event, this year’s awards will take on an Oscars feel, with guests being treated to a drinks reception before the awards ceremony. After this, guests will enter the venue and the winners will be announced. This will then be followed by an interactive food-and-drinks experience, which includes delicious dishes prepared by award-winning chefs. Guests can then enjoy the rest of the evening, which will involve great food, fun entertainment and dancing.

In an effort to be inclusive, there will be 30 nominees this year instead of the usual 20. There will be a countdown from 20 to 11 at the ceremony, before revealing the top 10. ‘We’re so excited that we’re recognising even more restaurants this year,’ says Aileen Lamb, MD of New Media, which owns Eat Out.

Mercedes-Benz South Africa is sponsoring these prestigious awards for the fourth consecutive year. ‘As a brand, we’re always striving to find the very best, and we’re thrilled to recognise local chefs and restaurants around South Africa, whose culinary delights exceed expectations year after year,’ says Selvin Govender, Marketing Director of Mercedes-Benz Cars.
The winning restaurants are chosen by a core panel of five judges, headed by Eat Out editor Abigail Donnelly. Aside from Abigail, the panel will remain anonymous, even after the judging has concluded.

In addition to the Top 10 restaurants, the 2017 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards will recognise the Eat Out S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna Chef of the Year, Eat Out Retail Capital New Restaurant of the Year and Eat Out Rising Star, and the winners of the inaugural Eat Out Graham Beck Chefs’ Chef Award, Eat Out Service Excellence Award, Eat Out Wine Service Award, Eat Out John Psillos Award for Outstanding Contribution to Service, Eat Out Style Award and the Eat Out Woolworths Sustainability Award.
