Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho managed to enjoy 8 minutes playing time Saturday as Manchester City handed Crystal Palace a 5-0 demolition at the Ethihad Stadium.
Iheanacho who has been practically frozen out by coach Pep Guardiola came in as late substitute for Gabriel Jesus in the 84th minute.
The 20 year old who is being tipped to join Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund following his decreasing and sometimes absolute non playing time at the Ethihad has seen combined action time of 28 minutes in in four matches.
Manchester city completely dominated proceedings at the Ethihad with David Silva flagging off the goal feast as early as the 2nd minute of the match.
Captain Vincent Kompany converted a 49th minute assist from compatriot Kevin De Bruyne.
Kevin De Bruyne then registered his own name on the score sheet in the 59th minute. Raheem Sterling was on target in the 82nd minute while Nicolás Otamendi completed the rout in a tie in which Crystal palace only managed two shots on target.
The result lifts City above Liverpool into third on goal difference, with Jurgen Klopp’s men hosting Southampton on Sunday, while Manchester United are four points back in fifth ahead of their trip to Arsenal.
Silva’s inclusion in the City starting XI was something of a surprise following Guardiola’s pessimistic assessment of his fitness on Friday, but he started and finished the move that put the hosts ahead.
A ball over the top to Raheem Sterling was lifted back across goal by the England international, and Martin Kelly’s poor defensive header landed kindly for Silva to get City off to a flying start with a low drive into the bottom-right corner his 50th goal for the club.
