463,186 PVCs uncollected

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that 463,186 Permanent Voter’s Cards have not been collected in Osun State.

INEC said the PVCs left uncollected as at last week stood at 515,773, adding that the figure has dropped by one per cent.

Speaking to reporters at a sensitization forum for reporters on the governorship election in Osogbo, the state capital, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Olusegun Agbaje, enjoined prospective voters that are yet to collect their PVCs to do so.

He said they still have the opportunity of doing so till September 14, which is a week to the election.

Agbaje, who was represented by the Head of the Voters Education Department, Mr. Steven Ojewande, assured Nigerians that the election will be credible, free and fair.

However, he warned against vote buying and selling, saying INEC is making arrangements to curb the incidence during the Osun poll.

Giving out statistics of voters for the governorship poll, he disclosed that registered voters stood at 1,682,495, while PVC collected was 1,213,026 and uncollected stood at 463,186.

Agbaje said there are 30 local government areas and that registration areas stands at 332 and voting points and polling  units are 3,765.

The REC, who maintained that the September 22 election would be used to to further prove that the INEC can conduct free and credible     elections. He promised to ensure  adequate security during the poll.

In his goodwill message, the Chairman of Osun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr. Kehinde Ayantunji, appealed to INEC to ensure proper accreditation of journalists for the election, so as to guide against a situation where fake reporters would invade the state during the election.

Also, the Chief Executive Officer of Rave FM, Mr. Femi Adefila,  advised INEC to make information accessible to reporters  during the election.
