The unprecedented spread of the Monkeypox virus which broke out in Bayelsa last week has put the lawmakers on their toes.
The House of Representatives today summoned the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, after the issue was filed under “matters of urgent national importance.”
From indications, Adewole will have to explain to the House why the monkeypox virus could not be confirmed in Nigeria until laboratory investigations by WHO and referral to Dakar, Senegal.

Meanwhile, in the Senate, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce went in hard as he made his submission on the issue of drug abuse on the House floor.
For over four minutes, the Senator spoke on the topic, ‘The Need to Check the Rising Menace of Pharmaceutical Drug Abuse among Youths Especially in Northern Nigeria.’
The high point of his speech was when he pointedly told the other senators to search within their households as he was certain they were accommodating drug addicts.
