[The Injustice Blog] How Okorocha can help by visiting South Africa

While the governor of Imo, Rochas Okorocha is still receiving knocks for his ill-motivated five hundred and twenty million Naira (N520,000,000) statue for President Jacob Zuma, there is a new development that will need his attention.

It is expected he pays a thank you visit to President Zuma for honouring his invitation to Owerri as custom demands. While going, it is suggested he has in his entourage our “active” Minister of Foreign affairs Geoffrey Onyeama. All things being equal, he should be back from his Turkey trip before the week runs out.

As Okorocha may not be aware that South African police officers protested against Nigerians in the country, if he were indeed aware of anything that happens around him, he won’t chose to honour a man whose tenure has witnessed the highest killings of Nigerians in South Africa’s history. But as Nigerians, we don’t hold grudges, we’ve forgiven him for that gaffe.

Back to the main issue, when Okorocha is going for his thank you tour, he needs to have on his agenda, the plan to discuss with his mentor, the mindless killings of Nigerians in South Africa which has crossed the rubicon. As we all know, Zuma mentioned it in Nigeria during his visit that no South African should kill a Nigerian.

In furtherance to that declaration, Okorocha should officially present the complaints of Nigerians about South Africans to Zuma. For “packaging” sake, he should not tell Zuma we condemn his statue. He should limit it to the killings and the recent macabre dance of the South African police against Nigerians living in the country as one received with a high level of disappointment from the Giant of Africa.

Okorocha needs to tell his host that the lives of Nigerians are not safe under his leadership and its time for more action and less talk. Another killing of a Nigerian in South Africa won’t be good for the “towering” profile Jacob Zuma is trying to build in Nigeria.

We believe that Rochas Okorocha will handle this situation, at a time President Buhari has failed to attend to such. The earlier Nigeria rises to this issue, the better for us.
