The Presidency has Friday, clarified what President Muhammadu Buhari aims to achieve when he asked the World Bank to focus on rebuilding the North East.

- President of the World Bank Group, Jim Yong Kim Thursday, said the bank’s concentration on Northern Nigeria was as a result of President Muhammadu Buhari‘s request.
- Kim said, “You know, in my very first meeting with President Buhari he said specifically that he would like us to shift our focus to the northern region of Nigeria and we’ve done that. Now, it has been very difficult. The work there has been very difficult.”
The statement signed by Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina said Buhari requested that World Bank focused on the North East was because “we inherited a Northeast beset by a humanitarian crisis of monumental proportions: villages and towns laid waste; more than 20,000 dead.”
It also states that “Northeast Nigeria has always been a priority for President Buhari, right from when he campaigned to be President.”
He, however, added that “any part of the country that requires special attention would receive it, irrespective of primordial affinities.”
