Ellen DeGeneres shares a moving message after the Las Vegas shooting

After the deadly mass shooting in Las Vegas, Ellen DeGeneres addressed her show’s audience with an important mission: focus on the good people do in the world, rather than fight with each other and focus on the negative.

In the segment, which was taped Monday but aired Tuesday, DeGeneres tearfully addressed the aftermath of not only the shooting in Las Vegas, but the devastation in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria.

But instead of dwell on the sad details, she talked about the glimmers of hope — the signs of good in this world — that emerged from the tragedy, like the Las Vegas locals who lined up for hours to donate blood.

‘I am hoping we can fill this room with love and prayers and hope,’ she said. ‘It’s very easy to lose hope, but we cannot do that. I always say there’s a lot more good in the world than there is bad, and I continue to believe that.’

She then showed a montage of the inspirational people she has featured on her show, who have started charities or simply performed random acts of kindness for strangers. ‘It is hard to do a show on a day like this. When I wake up today, I think, How am I doing to do a show?’ she said. ‘But it’s also days like this when I appreciate my job more than ever, because I get to focus and shine a light on people who do good in the world.’

After the tear-jerking segment ended, Ellen concluded with an uplifting message: ‘The world is full of amazing people. Good will always win. Love will always win.’
