Wamakko targets 1,000 eye patients in 8-day medical outreach

At least 1,000 eye patients are expected to benefit from an eight-day free medical outreach organised by Sen. Aliyu Wamakko for his Sokoto North constituents.

A statement signed by Malam Bahir Mani, Wamakko’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, said that the exercise would kick off on Tuesday, August 1.

“The exercise will be carried out simultaneously in the eight local governments that make up the constituency; it targets no fewer than 1,000 persons suffering from various eye ailments,” Bashir said in the statement.

The statement said that two optometrists – Ubani Chinemeze and Paul Chukwudi – would handle the exercise expected to correct infections like conjunctivitis, refractive errors and uveitis.

“Eye glasses will also be given to those who may need them,” he said.

The statement quoted Wamakko as saying that he was motivated by a deep desire to assist the poor and under privileged in the society.

“Health is wealth; a healthy society is a wealthy society because it is blessed with productive people,” the statement quoted Senator Wamakko, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, as saying,

Local Governments to benefit from the outreach include Wamakko, Gudu, Kware, Tangaza, Binji, Silame, Sokoto North and Sokoto South.
