Buying an even remotely affordable home in New York City is not as impossible as it seems—you just have to do some digging. According to Zillow, the median price for a home in New York City is upwards of $670,000, but that doesn't mean you have to drop more than half a million just to live here. There are some less expensive options in Manhattan, for example, but another great place to look is in Brooklyn.
