Good Housekeeping‘s editor, Sally Emery, interviewed celebrity chef Mynhardt, one of the demo chefs who will be presenting at our very own Bake Stars High Tea on Friday 1 September 2017. He will be showcasing how to create something spectacular from something ordinary in the sweet department. 

Here is our fun Q&A with this super-talented chef:

Q: In one paragraph, what are your foodie credentials?

A: Self-taught cook, chef, photographer, foodie, events organiser, stylist, winner of kykNET Kokkedoor 2013, brand ambassador for KWV, Huiskombuis owner.

Q: What are the three things you always have in your fridge?

A: Full-cream milk, butter and chunky caramel peanut butter.

Q: And in your pantry?

A: Brown sugar, condensed milk and chocolate.

Q: What’s the one kitchen item worth investing in?

A: A good-quality mixer.

Q: What kitchen gadget is a waste of money?

A: Bread-making machine.

Q: What are your three most-used kitchen tools?

A: My Kenwood mixer, red spatula and Defy oven.

Q: What are your five most-used cooking ingredients?

A: Chocolate, jumbo eggs, Sasko flour, butter and NOMU Fond stock.

Q: What meal do you only ever order in a restaurant?

A: Pizza.

Q: What meal would you never order in a restaurant?

A: Chicken.

Q: What’s your favourite meal?

A: Braaivleis met pap en sous.

Q: What’s one cooking tip everyone should know?

A: Home-made and preserved always tastes better, takes you further, is more cost-effective and shows your heart.

Q: What’s the best part of your job?

A: I get to work from home.

Q: And the worst?

A: Convincing myself that pyjamas are not office attire.

Q: What is the strangest food combo you love?

A: Malva pudding with blue cheese.

Q: What’s the one thing you can’t eat?

A: Melkkos.
