Egypt’s Omar Assar has emerged overall winner in the Men’s Single of the Nigeria International Table Tennis Federation(ITTF) Challenge which was concluded today at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos. Indian’s Gandhi Sarthak was runner-up.
The Egyptian who has won all the editions of the ITTF Challenge carted home the cash prize of US$5,000 while Gandhi got US$2,300 for his effort.
Nigeria’s No 1 seeded player, Aruna Quadri who had been tipped for the exalted trophy had experienced a shock defeat at this year’s edition when he was beaten by compatriot, Bode Abiodun in six games (11-9, 7-11, 11-5, 12-10, 9-11, 11-9) to reserve his place in the last eight.
Abiodun an underdog had however exited the games today when he was beaten by Indian’s Gandhi Sarthak in the semi-final.
