ITV, the British commercial TV network, has shared an exclusive first look at the documentary about the life and legacy of Princess Diana where Prince William and Prince Harry reflect on their memories of their mum. Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, which has been commissioned alongside a special documentary by the BBC in the UK, is set to air later this month – 20 years on from her death.
In the first trailer for the programme, Prince Harry reveals that this is ‘the first time’ the two have ever spoken about Diana ‘as a mother’. As the two royals look over a private family album that was put together by their mother, they reflect on Diana’s legacy and long-lasting influence on both the public and themselves.
‘She was very informal and really enjoyed the laughter and the fun,’ the Duke of Cambridge admits. ‘But she understood that there was a real life outside of Palace walls.’ Prince Harry calls her ‘the best mum in the world’ and adds: ‘She was one of the naughtiest parents… She smothered us with love, that’s for sure.’
In a similar special commission, a BBC One documentary is set to tell the ‘inside story’ of the tumultuous week that followed the tragic and unexpected death of Diana. The film will also feature in-depth interviews with her two sons, as they remember the period between hearing news of their mother’s death right up to the funeral itself.
Also reflecting on the week following her death will be family members, close friends, political figures and journalists, many of whom will be speaking for the first time about the events.
