The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined Prince Harry at the re-dedication of Princess Diana’s grave on Saturday, 1 July, on what would have been her 56th birthday.
The private service, held at Diana’s family home Althorp House, was also attended by Prince George and Princess Charlotte, as well as Diana’s brother, the Earl of Spencer, and her sisters. The late princess’ ex-husband, Prince Charles, was absent due to a planned three-day royal visit to Canada with Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

BBC royal correspondent Peter Hunt in the UK reports that Kensington Palace decided to make the private event public because this year marks the 20th anniversary of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, and ‘it would be difficult to keep it secret’.
Prince William and Prince Harry were just 15 and 12 when their mother died in a car crash in Paris in 1997. Harry recently opened up about his mother’s funeral, during which he and Prince William walked behind the coffin in a public procession.
‘My mother had just died, and I had to walk a long way behind her coffin, surrounded by thousands of people watching me while millions more did on television,’ he told Newsweek.
‘I don’t think any child should be asked to do that, under any circumstances. I don’t think it would happen today.’
