The right way to wash your bras

wash

Learning how to wash your lingerie isn’t very sexy, we know, but it’s essential if you want to keep it looking good for longer. Follow these tips:

Hand-washing

Hand-washing your bras is gentle on your lingerie and is therefore the best way to wash your special pieces. To hand-wash, fill the basin with enough water so that your bras can be fully submerged. Make sure you use warm and not hot water, as hot water can stretch a bra. Now add just a teaspoon of detergent, swirl the bras around and let them soak for 10 to 15 minutes.

Now drain the water and fill the basin with clean warm water. Work through the bras to remove detergent, but be careful not to squeeze or twist too hard. Once all the detergent has been removed, let your bras air-dry.

Hint: If you live in a particularly humid environment, consider pointing a fan at your bras so that they dry quickly and don’t pick up a bad smell.

Machine-washing

It’s not wise to throw your loose bras in with all your other laundry, as they need extra-special care. The first thing you need is a lingerie wash bag or a mesh washing bag that zips up. This will protect your bras from stretching and from hooking onto other items.

Once you’ve placed your lingerie bag with bras in the washing machine, be sure to use the ‘delicates’ or cold-water-cycle setting on your machine. When the cycle is done, do not tumble-dry your bras. Rather air-dry them, as this is much gentler and will keep them looking their best for longer.
