Shiroro Local Government Council in Niger said on Tuesday that it spent about N1.7 million to rehabilitate 20 motorised boreholes in different parts of the council area.
Alhaji Ahmed Kuta, Vice Chairman of the council, made the disclosure in an interview with newsmen in Minna.
Kuta also said the council embarked on the exercise to provide portable water for the residents and prevent water-borne diseases in the area.
He assured that the present administration in the council would continue to accord priority to the provision of basic amenities to improve the well-being of the people.
Kuta, however, called on the people of the area to ensure the safety of government property in their areas against activities of vandals.
He also called on them to report any outbreak of epidemic to the nearest health institution for quick response.
“We have equipped our health centres with basic medical facilities, to address health challenges of our people,” he said.
