Welcome to our new series, How to Build a Work Wardrobe At ___. Today, we’re looking at how to build a work wardrobe at Boden — you can also check out how to build a work wardrobe at Nordstrom (and view the entire series how to build a work wardrobe here eventually).
Boden is one of the readers’ favorite places to shop online for workwear, and with good reason — most of their workwear is machine washable, has friendly sizing up to size 18, and also offers tall or petite size ranges. Some of our favorite pieces for work include:

Everything in Boden’s Ottoman line is beloved, particularly the short-sleeved Elsa dress (and its longer-sleeved cousin). It’s got sleeves and is fully lined AND machine washable — and all for $148. It comes in sizes 2-18 in regular, petite, and long sizes. Elsa Ottoman Dress |
If you’re looking for a silk-blend t-shirt/blouse hybrid to wear under suits, you must consider the very popular Ravello (which comes in both crew neck and v-neck versions, pictured). (Also very popular and similar: the jewel-necked Ravenna top.) The Ravello comes in solid colors as well as prints and is machine washable, and all styles feature pleats at the neckline and a keyhole at the back of the neck. The tops are $75 full price, but there are often sale styles (and lucky sizes) as low as $22. Pictured: Ravello Top |
Their Martha line is ’60s inspired, with most pieces featuring a heavy stretch cotton that resists wrinkles and is machine washable, and most of the tops featuring rolled collars. There are Martha dresses, tops, and even a skirt to match the tops. They all look lovely for work (but please leave the beehive out of it). Pictured: Martha Dress |
It’s not exactly tweed blazer season, but we’ve featured the Elizabeth blazer a number of times in our roundups for velvet blazers and other winter blazers — it comes in fun colors and fabrics, and you can currently find lucky sizes on sale for $79 (down from $198). As part of their new ponte collection, Boden also offers the Elizabeth blazer in ponte — and it’s winning rave reviews. (The Elizabeth has two buttons — which is probably better for you if you’re busty — but the Emilia blazer only has a single button, and is also very popular.) Pictured: Elizabeth Blazer |
It’s not exciting or sexy, but Boden’s classic shirt (pictured here in polka dot but also available in white and chambray, as well as eight other prints) wins rave reviews, as noted in our recent roundup of the best dress shirts for women. It’s 100% cotton and machine washable, has a semi-fitted shape, and is currently available in regular and petite sizes 2-18. The Classic Shirt |
Finally, do consider the shoes at Boden. I always think of one of my best friends when I see Boden’s shoes — she absolutely loves colorful, quirky, beautiful heels — and I think a lot of these would be a great statement shoe to liven up your basic neutral sheath dress or suit. (But, an important note: All of the pictured shoes also come in basic black.)
