Suspected gunmen have abducted the Permanent Secretary in the Ondo State Hospital Management Board (OSHMB), Dr. Niran Ikuomola.
Ikuomola was abducted alongside his driver on Sunday evening along the Lokoja/Abuja expressway.
He was on his way to Abuja for an official assignment when his vehicle was stopped by the gunmen.
Secretary of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in the state, Dr. Roland Arohunmolase, who spoke to journalists in Akure, the state capital, said one of the kidnappers informed them about the abduction of the permanent secretary and his driver.
He said the abductors had already contacted the family of the victims and demanded N70 million ransom.
He said: “Dr. Ikuomola was abducted on Sunday with his driver on the Lokoja -Abuja road while on his way to Abuja for an official assignment.
“The kidnappers have contacted us on Monday morning and demanded for N70million before he and his driver could be released.”
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Femi Joseph, could not immediately confirm the abduction.
Joseph said since the incident occurred outside Ondo State, police officers in the state where it took place (Kogi) would take it up.
