We all have moments when our energy levels take a dip and it seems as though nothing can get us back on track again. Luckily for you, we have figured out how we can transform those low-energy moments into a complete health revival – plus there’s absolutely no exercise involved! Revive your sense of enthusiasm and energy for life with these three effective habits.
- Plan for three meals a day, with healthy snacks in between if you need them, says nutritionist Amanda Ursell. What you eat for one meal will directly affect what you eat for the next – and your energy levels in between. If you start with junk, you’re more likely to eat it for the rest of the day. Reaching for the biscuits midmorning after having not had breakfast isn’t about lack of willpower, it’s because of a biochemical reaction in your body. When your blood sugar is low, you need a quick fix.
- Stock up on energy nutrients Low iron levels are a problem for at least one in 10 of us, and can leave you fatigued and lethargic. Good sources are lean meat, liver and egg yolks, but dried fruit, tofu, nuts and kidney beans also contain iron. If you’re concerned, ask your doctor for a blood test.
- Rehydrate ‘All our body’s chemical reactions take place in water, and if we don’t have enough, our brain shrinks a little,’ says dietitian Christina Merryfield. Dehydration affects your energy levels, mood and concentration, so aim for at least 1,2 litres of fluid a day.
Go on, get zesty!
