For allegedly stealing N 3.7 million from her employer, a 28-year-old saleswoman Feyikemi Olatunji , was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Olatunji , a resident of Agege area of Lagos, pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing preferred against her.
The accused, according to the prosecutor, Sgt. Mike Unah, committed the offence between year 2016 and March 17, 2017, at 1, Sharwama Outlet, situated at Ogba area of Lagos.
Unah alleged that the accused, who works as a saleswoman at 01 Sharwama Outlet, stole N3.7 million from her employer, Ebunoluwa Adeyemi.
He said that the accused was in charge of depositing the money made from sales at the bank.
The prosecutor said that the accused, instead of depositing the whole money made from sales in the company’s account, deposited half of it into her own personal account.
“When Adeyemi eventually discovered that the accused was stealing from her, she decided to confront Olatunji, who denied stealing any money from her.
“Adeyemi reported the matter to the police and the accused was arrested for further questioning,” Unah said.
He noted that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes a three-year jail term for stealing.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.O Gbajumo, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate adjourned the case until May 2 for mention.
