Akwa Ibom State Police Command on Monday said it had arrested four suspects in connection with advance fee fraud of N40,672, 000. 00.
The state police Commissioner, Mr. Don Awunah said the suspects were arrested following a report of internet fraud and hacking by the Regional Manager of Diamond Bank Plc, covering South- South and South- East regions.
Mr. Awunah said the account of a customer, whose name he did not mention for security reasons, was hacked into and the sum of N40, 672,000.00 was fraudulently withdrawn and transferred into various accounts.
He listed the names of the suspects as Godwin Edokpolor, Chibuike Amadi, Maxwell John and Uchenna Onyekwere.
The police commissioner said upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime and have been charged to court and remanded in prison.
Awunah said the exhibit recovered from the suspects comprised documents showing the transfer of the money.
