3 Tips for Working Out at Home

As most of you know, ALL of my workouts are done in the comfort of my own home (garage) or outside at the beach or park. With my busy life as a full-time working mom, I have found home workouts best fit my lifestyle. With very limited time, being able to literally just walk out into my garage and get in a quick workout has helped me stay on track with no excuses.

While working out at home can be super convenient, it also comes with a set of challenges, such as distractions! You may find yourself wanting to put in a load of laundry or catering to your kids’ needs in between trying to complete an exercise. With all the distractions, it can be easy to not commit fully to your workouts, cut them short or find an excuse to why you never even get started.

Working out at home can be so beneficial, as long as you keep your distractions at bay. Check out my top three tips for staying focused while getting in a killer workout:

3 Tips for Working Out at Home

1. Remove The Distractions

Distractions are everywhere, especially when you are in the comfort of your own home. Whether it be family members, pets, children, phone, computer or the mail carrier, there are a lot of things that can distract you from your workout. If you stop to fold a load of laundry halfway through your workout or stop to answer a text message, that can be sabotaging your goals and taking away from your precious time. The best thing you can do is commit yourself to a certain amount of time for your workout and workout only. Just like you plan a date with a girlfriend or book a business call, block out your workout time as your YOU time with NO distractions. The laundry, text messages and doorbell can wait!

2. Create Your Own “Gym Environment”

Have fun to create a positive and motivating gym environment that looks and feels welcoming— one that makes you want to pump some iron and move your body. Put some motivational photos on the wall or have an organized set-up so you get excited when you enter your space. Giving your space a good “gym setting” feel will improve your workouts and keep you motivated.

No matter how much or little equipment you have, you can create a nice environment that gets you excited to work out. This could be as simple as having a music set-up, organizing your weights and laying down a yoga mat. Put a little tender loving care into your gym environment and you will be surprised how much it will do for your workouts while eliminating distractions.

3. Put Your Phone Down

Your cell phone can be the biggest distraction of them all. As hard as it is, put down your phone, turn it on silent or even turn it completely off while you commit to your workout. Rather than using your phone to play music, have another device set up strictly for your workout tunes. Having the alerts go off on your phone are all too distracting and can take you away from your zone. When your phone is close, it is too easy to check in on social media. Do yourself a favor and turn off your phone!

I hope these tips are helpful and keep you focused and digging deep while enjoying working out in the comfort of your own home!
