Are you looking for a furry companion of your own? Take this tongue-in-cheek quiz to find out what animal will suit your living arrangements, budget and personality best.
Important disclaimer: This quiz was compiled and shared for a bit of fun. If you really do plan to get a pet, you should be doing research and careful budgeting. No quiz can take the place of expert advice.
Factors to take into account when you choose a pet:
- What is your living arrangement like? Do you have ample space? Do you live with housemates or children who have allergies? Does your dwelling allow pets?
- Consider your budget: There will be vet bills and costs for microchipping and neutering or spaying, and food and other supplies will become a grocery staple. The amount of disposable income you have for a pet hugely influences what pet would suit you.
- Will a pet fit into your day-to-day routine? Will there be time for regular walks if you decide on a dog? Will you be home every night to feed your pet? Do you have available backup or pet sitters if you want to go away on holiday?
- Ask yourself whether you are planning to move to a different province or country in the near future. It might not be the time for a new pet if you are planning to uproot him soon.
Tips for prospective pet owners:
- Contact your local adoption shelters, who might have plenty of dogs or cats up for adoption.
- Do consider adopting an older cat or dog. Not only will you probably save a life, but an older pet may also have better understandings of commands and won’t have to be house-trained.
- If you have young children, prepare them for the arrival of the new companion. Involve them in feeding and taking care of the pet.
