10 dog-friendly breakfast spots in Cape Town

dog-friendly breakfast spots in Cape Town

SolStockIt’s sad that we often get to spend the least time with our supposed best friend. Between working long hours, sitting in traffic, running errands, doing school runs, making time for our girlfriends – the list goes on and on – we hardly ever get time for ourselves, let alone our pets.

And on weekends we usually want to head out for a nice meal (we didn’t have to prepare ourselves) at a nice place (where we don’t have to clean and do the dishes) for a nice time (where we don’t have to keep watching the clock).

So wouldn’t it be, well, nice, if we could combine this much-needed outing with spending some quality time with Fido? Well, now we can, thanks to this list of pet-friendly breakfast places in the Mother City.

1. Blonde&Beard, Muizenberg

Blonde&Beard is a full service restaurant/café in the heart of Muizenberg. This lovely little café is just metres away from the beach, it has an upstairs and downstairs area, and it has free Wi-Fi. It has a full breakfast and lunch menu. A water bowl for your pet is available on request.

TRY: Their breakfast special – a classic breakfast plus coffee for R45.

2. CaffeNeo, Mouille Point

Situated right across from one of the designated dog-friendly areas along the promenade, this corner café is a popular weekend hangout for pet lovers. And it’s the perfect place to satisfy your breakfast cravings! The menu offers a variety of Mediterranean dishes as well as more classic breakfast options. They happily provide water bowls for thirsty pups.

TRY: Build your own egg frittata (R69) or enjoy a buttery croissant with your morning cuppa.

3. Café Paradiso, Kloof Street

Café Paradiso, part of the Madame Zingara group, is a home from home that celebrates long-held traditions and family values, where enticing aromas emanate from the bakery long before dawn and the pasta machine is hard at work all day. The lovely garden and courtyard offer plenty of playing space for dogs.

TRY: The brioche French toast with bacon, berries, cream cheese and maple syrup (R80). Yum!

4. Company’s Garden Restaurant, CBD

Another member of the Madame Zingara family, The Company’s Garden Restaurant offers plenty of green space for Fido to run free. The restaurant serves a selection of light meals, teatime favourites and a variety of traditional South African fare from early in the morning until late in the afternoon.

TRY: The Gardener – bacon, grilled tomato and fried egg on rye – for R42.

5. Café Roux, Noordhoek

Situated in Weltevreden Farmhouse on the Noordhoek Farm Village estate, this restaurant is so dog-friendly it even has a separate pet menu! Sit outside and let your four-legged friend play while you enjoy one of their signature all-day breakfasts.

6. Maria’s Greek Café & Restaurant, Gardens

Loyal guests return to Maria’s, which is situated on the charming cobbled Dunkley Square in the old part of the city, for lunches, dinners, baklava, chunky Greek salads and other favourites.
