Coach Okey Emordi has said he left Abia Warriors due to the string of poor performances by the team.
The former Enyimba coach, who joined the club at the start of the season, resigned on Monday after the Warriors lost 1-0 at home to El Kanemi Warriors on Sunday. His resignation was communicated to the chairman of the club, Emeka Inyama, in a letter on Monday.
“The decision to resign was a personal one and was borne out of the fact that I was not pleased with the performance of the team while I was in charge,” Emordi said.
“Losing games, especially at home, and failing to pick vital points are things that a coach would not be proud of. So, I saw that I wasn’t doing too well with the club and thus decided to leave.
“I wasn’t under any sort of pressure from the management but I know the club’s fans won’t be too happy with the team’s performance so far. I wish them good luck as the season progresses.”
His former assistant, Abdullahi Biffo, has taken over the team with immediate effect. Biffo’s first assignment will be an away match against Akwa United in Uyo this weekend.
Biffo led the club to a seventh-place finish last season after the exit of Kennedy Boboye. Abia are eighth in the Premier League with 11 points from nine matches.
