The app is supposed to be "your one-stop shop for daily information from the ICPC and also to enable you report daily acts of corruption going on around you."
When Yoruba people see something strange and funny they usually say "Orisirisi". That is the first thing that came to my mind when I came across the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission's (ICPC) whistle blowing app.
Yes, the ICPC built an actual snitching app, people. The app is called Wahala Dey (If you know whoever was responsible for this decision, hit me up, biko) and already has 100 downloads on the Google Play Store.
The app is supposed to be "your one-stop shop for daily information from the ICPC and also to enable you report daily acts of corruption going on around you."
Apparently, the anti-graft agency hopes the app will help foster a whistle blowing culture amongst Nigerian citizens. It is also supposed to aid unknown whistle blowing for corrupt practices happening within government agencies as well as the private sector.

There are section for reporting various kinds of corruption in the app with sections for attaching media such as pictures and videos. You can also send petitions to the Commission.
“The App (Wahala Dey) is in-line with the commission’s drive towards harnessing technological solutions to fighting corruption in Nigeria,” said Ekpo Nta, the chairman of the anti-graft agency, according to Ventures Africa.
“We champion the provision of technological solutions to corruption, one of which is the recently launched e-portal pssp.gov.ng for greater transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s ports sector.”
There is probably some merit to the idea behind the app: people can report various kinds of corruption (which is a big problem in Nigeria) anonymously and help bridge the information gap between the government and the citizenry.
But is this what the country needs to combat the monster that is corruption? Let me know in the comments section below, or tweet at me @TheFolarin.
