A middle-aged man has been beheaded by suspected cultists in Oredo Local Government Area in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
The incident was said to have occurred late Sunday around First Junction, off Sakponba road.
The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained as many passersby, who gathered to catch a glimpse of his remains, claimed that he was not a familiar face in the area.
There were several bruises on the severed body of the victim, indicating that he may have been pulled along a tarred road.
Some security operatives from the Adesuwa police station were said to have removed the body on Monday morning.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Nkombe, said that the only report available to him in the area was a case of an accident by a hit-and-run driver.
However, over 20 suspected cultists had been arrested by the state police command in the last one month.
