DELTA State Police Command has warned groups and individuals planning to carry out pro and anti protest marches against the immediate past governor of the state, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, at Asaba, Ughelli, Sapele and Warri on Monday to call a halt.
“In line with its deliberate efforts at preventing any security breach and ensuring the protection of lives and properties and the preservation of peace and order in the state at all times, Delta state police command , Asaba, warns individuals and groups in the state against embarking on the proposed solidarity marches, both for and against the immediate past state governor, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, slated for 27th February, 2017 in Asaba, Ughelli, Sapele and Warri,” the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Delta Command, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, said in a statement.
He said: “Rising from a strategic meeting held Thursday, 23rd February, 2017, the state police command management team observed that although every Nigerian has the fundamental rights of expression as enshrined in our statutes and the Constitution, there is need to prevent the planned protests, which from available and credible intelligence reports would do an incalculable harm to individuals, groups, the state and the nation at large.”
The command appealed to all Deltans to explore all peaceful and other well-known result-oriented measures towards realizing their aspirations and called for understanding, mature reasoning and support for the police and other security agencies in their quest to make Delta safe and secure.
