NAMA raises committee to review aeronautical information procedure

Maureen Ihua-Maduenyi

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency has set up a committee to review the country’s Aeronautical Information Procedure.

According to the Managing Director of NAMA, Capt. Fola Akinkuotu, the AIP review became necessary following the ongoing certification of Nigeria’s international airports by the International Civil Aviation Organisation.

He stated that the review would commence immediately.

The Nigerian AIP is a state document that contains all aeronautical information that relates to the services, procedures, facilities and personnel at all the country’s airports or within the Nigerian airspace.

A statement by NAMA said the review would capture facilities that had been upgraded at the airports including fire cover, lighting systems, aerodrome layout, airfield lighting facilities, navigational facilities and visual aids.

The agency also listed safety critical information to be captured in the review to include landing and take-off distance available, runway end safety area, flight approach procedure for all airports, state weather minima for all airports and aerodrome characteristics.

The committee, according to the agency, is headed by the General Manager, Safety Management Systems and Quality Assurance, Mr. Mathew Pwajok.

“The committee’s review exercise is being conducted as a collaborative effort by NAMA, with the support from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, towards the attainment of successful certification of Nigeria’s international airports by the International Civil Aviation Organisation,” the agency stated.
