At the resumed hearing of the case, the prosecutor, Mrs O.A Olugasa, told the court that her witness was not around to testify.
The case against a 28-year-old labourer, Stella Gilbert, who allegedly stabbed her neighbour to death during a scuffle over a bench, was on Thursday stalled over the absence of pathologist.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Gilbert was arraigned on July 15, 2015, on a charge of murder before an Ikeja High Court, Lagos.
At the resumed hearing of the case, the prosecutor, Mrs O.A Olugasa, told the court that her witness was not around to testify.
“My Lord we are facing some challenges; we have not been able to get the pathologist to come to court today; we will be requesting for an adjournment,” she said.
Justice Raliatu Adebiyi consequently adjourned the case to March 1, for continuation of trial.
Earlier, Olugasa, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 22, 2013 at No. 59, Ojora St., Ajegunle, Lagos.
“The deceased and the accused are neighbours, as well as namesakes. On the day of the incident, a visitor came to see the deceased husband and she wanted a chair for their visitor.
“She went to fetch a wooden bench which was kept in the custody of the accused by another neighbour for her guest to sit on.
“The accused was upset with the deceased for taking the bench without her consent and in the ensuing anger, threw some hot water from her kettle on the deceased, her husband and their guest.
“A scuffle ensued between the two women and the accused fatally stabbed the deceased on the arm and the chest,” she said.
NAN reports that the deceased’s husband, one Comfort Adang, and ASP. Fatai Popoola, the investigating police officer, have all testified in the case.
