And Denzel Washington is an African-American actor who has been nominated in the best actor category five times; winning once for Training Day in 2001.
The two-time winner (his other award being Best Supporting Actor in the historical war drama film Glory in 1989) has spoken extensively about the Oscars and the movie he directed – Fences.
