Last week, dancehall singer African China shared a video of a policeman pointing a rifle at him and threatening to shoot him.
In the days that followed, the Ajegunle born artiste said in interviews that the standoff was caused because he did not ‘settle’ the policeman like he had done the area boys.
But today, dancehall legend Daddy Showkey, who is perhaps the most recognizable name to come out of Ajegunle, has played the role of peacemaker and has brokered peace between China and the police officer.
He shared the video above with us and described it as his own attempt to make sure peace prevails in the Ajegunle community.
In a telephone conversation he had with our correspondent, he said, ‘Right from time, everyone knows I’m always for peace, and as someone who came out of Ajegunle, I see it as my duty to maintain peace within the community. As a matter of fact, I was born right next to the police station where this officer is stationed.’
He went further to state that it was a case of misunderstanding gone out of hand and the policeman has personally apologised to African China.
‘As soon as the matter happened, everybody just dey call me. I had to go beg the police authorities to allow the officer go with me to go settle the matter. You know say me and China are from Ajegunle and he was happy to let bygones be bygones. We all agreed that it wouldn’t be nice if the man was dismissed from the Force. You know say food don comot from one family mouth be that…’
The policeman and African China are seen in the video, along with other community leaders smiling and having drinks in a reconciliation mood.
