Court remands school proprietor for human trafficking

The Federal High Court, Ibadan, on Tuesday remanded Olayinka Taiwo, a school proprietress, in prison for alleged human trafficking.

The judge, Justice Joyce Abdulmaleek, adjourned ruling on the bail application till March 13.

Meanwhile, the judge has issued a warrant against the other accused person, Jelili Oladapo.

The counsel to the National Agency for the Prohibition in Persons, Mr S.A. Langyri, said that Taiwo was arraigned on a two-count bordering on trafficking in person.

Langyri added that the accused committed the crime in Ibadan in 2015.

He said that Taiwo and Oladapo were apprehended while trying to organise an illegal trip for a girl to the United Kingdom.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 26 (b) and 27 of NAPTIP Enforcement Acts 2015, which Taiwo pleaded not guilty.
Mr J.O. Bamigboye, the defence counsel had applied for the bail of his client on liberal term.
