African Flash Fiction: 'A Bullet in lasgidi Episode 2' By Rooky Kamiz

Bullet

'I have every course to believe that Omega is behind all these killings.....'

Last week, I shared the first episode of a beautiful African flash fiction series, 'A Bullet in Lasgidi' by Rooky Kamiz. Today, we're moving on to another interesting episode. Enjoy!

"The killing patterns are really something else, no form of connection or relation", complained detective Efe staring hard at the clipboard; Coffee In hand and a nicely iced doughnut. He was the lead investigator on the "cross city murders", he arrived late to the Alhaji Danko Murder Scene due to the usual heavy Lagos traffic. Detective Efe was known for his investigative prowess thus the nickname "The Bone Crusher", he had easily solved all cases giving to him including the infamous "Bone killer Case". Which was about a group of serial killers in Lagos who left a piece of dried bone on every killer but here's the toughest case he had ever handled before him , he has been able to deduce that the killings were not patterned but via the same source so he concluded it has to be an assassination organisation. His leads are the marked bullets which had the symbol of a well connected and infamous assassination organisation who called themselves 'The Omega'...

The Omega had surfaced just barely 2 years ago and has now unofficially behind all the most gruesome murders in Africa thus becoming a concern to all security agencies and the world community.

Detective Efe sank on his chair Effortlessly still sipping his almost empty cup of coffee, he pushed his spectacles up his nose and scanned through the file titled "Cross City Murder" and talking underneath his breath.

'I have every course to believe that The Omega is behind all these killings but at that point, this case would turn into a dead end', He sighed with Disappointment. Apparently, no one had ever broken the code of the Omega.

Bleep! bleep!! Sounded his smartphone as a text message appeared on the screen 'Hey Biggie, Dinner at 8 don't be late again I made your favourite', He smiled sheepishly it was a message from his Only and younger sister 'TEGA'

'Tega! Tega!!, My sweet and innocent baby, she's the only angel I live for', Efe thought as he stared at the wall clock at the office.

'It's 7 pm already??? Shit!' Efe exclaimed.

Work had always kept him late when he normally should have closed by 5 pm as he was in the investigation unit his work unofficially extends but right now he didn't want to keep his sister waiting and alone.

Picking up his briefcase and belongings he dashed out of his office at the Lagos city Police Department (LCPD) at Obalende. He took the wheels of his black saloon car and headed straight to his home at Surulere in the company of great tunes from Ed Sheeran, Johnny Drille and Some classic alternatives to ease the tension of the awaiting Lagos grind lock.

It was 8:15 pm and Detective Efe had just entered the house

'You are late again biggie!', Tega Shouted as she jumped on his body to welcome him.

'I'm sorry dear, it was the ...'

'Traffic yeah I know ' She interrupted him short and concluded leading him to his room.

Some minutes past after cleaning up and preparing himself, Efe sat eating his bowl of Starch and Banga Soup ferociously and telling his sister about what went down at work and the murder case, Tega sat beside him looking very expectant as she was sure Her Brother loved what she had prepared and also she had also gained an interest in the murder as she had asked Efe some questions.

'Ehen, biggie did you see the news about Uncle Benson's daughter, Miranda, getting married to the Minister of finance son?' Tega asked

'Yeah I heard about it', Efe said and continued lost in thoughts

'If mum and dad were alive, mum would have gone crazy with Aunt Cecilia choosing Asoebi for Miranda while Dad and Uncle Benson would be ordering for exotic imported wines'

There was a very obvious silence and then Tega broke the ice

'Biggie I would love to spend the weekend at Tess's place, she is having a sleepover and she has invited me as usual you know I'm always bored when you're out so I accepted can I go please?'

'Ermmmmm' Efe was about to reply when his smartphone rang. He picked up and after a series of "Yes Sir's" he dropped the call and winked at his sister

'Abuja calls baby, you can go but please be safe okay?'

'Thank You Baby' Tega smiled and perked him

'Goodnight Biggie',

'Goodnight baby' He replied as they parted for the night
