Balogun, the Atunwase of Egbaland, was charged and convicted for assault.
An Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Isabo on Thursday, sentenced Chief Alao Balogun, 72, to six months imprisonment for attacking his neighbours with saw-blade.
Balogun, the Atunwase of Egbaland, was charged and convicted for assault.
The prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Eigbejiale, told the court that the convict committed the offence on July. 31, 2013 at Lisabi Avenue, Isale Ake, Abeokuta.
He said that Balogun used carpenter’s saw-blade to cut the head and body of Mr Sahidu Salawu and Mrs Amoke Salawu.
He said the offence contravened section 335 of the Criminal Code of Laws of Ogun state 2006.
Balogun however pleaded not guilty to the charge.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Oriyomi Sofowora, said that since investigation had found the convict guilty of the offence, it was the duty of the court to mete out justice.
She however noted that due to Balogun’s age, status and health condition, the court would not sentence him to seven months imprisonment, but would temper justice with mercy as pleaded by his counsel.
Sofowora sentenced the chief to six months imprisonment with hard labour with an option to N50, 000 fine.
