According to statistics, 80% of women are currently wearing the incorrect bra size. Measuring your bra size may sound simple but somehow it’s just not. Bulging, gaping and lack of support seem to be the major common issues. Seriously, how many times have you gone into a lingerie store, had a professional fitting and then realised you’ve been a couple of sizes out for the past year or so?
Here are the 5 things to avoid when choosing a bra:
1. Ordering online
Unfortunately, online lingerie shopping only works for those who are prone to experiencing miracles. It’s difficult enough to buy the correct-sized bra in person, let alone over the Internet.
2. Thinking that a bigger bra size means you’re overweight
This isn’t necessarily true. The most important thing is to ensure that you are well supported. Then count your blessings, as curves are to be embraced, as shown by plus-size model Ashley Graham (below).
3. Going up in band size rather than cup size
This can often be linked to the misconception mentioned in the previous point. Increasing in bust size does not mean that you are increasing anywhere else! First focus on the cup before focusing on anything else.
4. Not making full use of the hooks on the strap
Adjusting the hooks makes all the difference when it comes to support, fit and comfort.
5. Thinking it’s okay to let your bra band ride up your back
No, no, no. This means that your bra is struggling to give you the proper support you need and that you probably need a bigger cup or strap size.
