2. Folic Acid


Folic acid can be found in dark green vegetables, citrus fruits and juices as well as whole grains. Folic acid decreases the risk of birth defects of the brain, spine or spinal cord, including spina bifida. Aim to eat 600mcg (equivalent of four cups of boiled Brussels sprouts) during pregnancy and 500mcg (equivalent of four cups avocado) when you're nursing.
