A 30-year-old man, Uzor Umezurike, has been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for alleged fraud.
Umezurike, whose address was not given, is facing one count charge of fraud.
The prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, told the court that the accused committed the offence in October 2016 at Oke-bola Street, Ado-Ekiti.
He said the accused fraudulently obtain the sum of N12,000 from one Mr. Oguntuase Omolafe with the guise of paying electricity bill for him and refused to do so.
Okunade said the offence contravened section 419 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2012 and punishable under same.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and his counsel, Mr. Babatunde Falade, urged the court to grant him bail.
He said the accused would not jump bail if granted bail.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Modupe Afeniforo, in her ruling, granted the accused bail in the sum of 5,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till September 8 for hearing.
