Claudio Ranieri insists he never wanted to sell N’Golo Kante to Chelsea.
The French midfielder left Leicester City last summer after helping the club win the Premier League title in his debut season at the King Power Stadium.
But Ranieri had no intention of selling Kante who he says is a man who is ‘born for football’.
“I didn’t want to sell him. The same way I didn’t want to sell Riyad Mahrez or Jamie Vardy, because I believe these players were the heart of the team,” he said on Sky Sports‘ Monday Night Football.
“I said to them, we start to make a fairy tale and we can continue, because I believe this team can do something good in the Champions League.
“This man is a very serious man. He is born for football, born to be serious. If you give him something, he made it the maximum.
“If he spoke behind me, I didn’t know it was him, because never did I recognise his voice!”
